Both are on the shop floor daily, monitoring every detail of the manufacturing operation, Julie oversees production scheduling, and Marcia does the purchasing of cores, supplies, and components. Tim Prugh, as general manager, handles most of the administrative and sales work.

Circle D Specialties
Circle D Specialties has a rich history dating back to the 1970s, founded by Dennis and Patricia Sehorn in Houston, Texas. The business, originally named Circle D Automotive, focused on general automotive repairs and later specialized in transmissions. The name “Circle D” was inspired by Dennis’s involvement in circle track racing, not overdrive transmissions as commonly assumed. The shop evolved into working on just automatic transmissions and the name Circle D Transmissions was born.
In 1984, Dennis expanded the business to include the production of OE-style torque converters for other shops, prompting the creation of Circle D Specialties. His son, Chris, joined the company in the mid-1990s, and by 2004, Chris and his wife Ann purchased the business from Dennis and Patricia.
Under Chris’s leadership, Circle D Specialties shifted its focus from OE products to performance-oriented torque converters. In 2006, the company purchased CNC machines, allowing them to produce components in-house, which significantly enhanced their manufacturing capabilities. By 2010, Circle D had become well-known for performance products, particularly in the LS and Coyote world.
The company moved to larger facilities in 2014 to a 21,000 square foot facility, and again in 2021, when they relocated to a 58,000 square-foot purpose built facility. Circle D continues to grow, acquiring Reid Racing in November 2024. Circle D now employs over 40 people, 14 CNC machines, and multiple manual and custom built machines allowing them to rapidly innovate and improve their product offerings. Their commitment to research and development, including the use of computational fluid dynamics, has made them a leader in producing high-performance torque converters.
Today, Circle D Specialties is a key player in the performance automotive industry, known for their cutting-edge technology, exceptional products, and dedicated customer service. They continue to sponsor and support racers, and remain a trusted name in the world of torque converters.
